I have found the camera in my iPhone to be a good enough camera that I no longer carry my point and shoot camera. Although I certainly wouldn't compare my iPhone camera to my Canon DSLR, you can't beat the convenience of a cell phone camera. For the most part, I use my iPhone camera for taking candid shots of family, recording a random adventure, or photography at venues that don't allow DSLR cameras.
I recently received an invitation to submit 3 camera phone shots for a contest http://bulb-photo.blogspot.com/2012/07/exciting-news-second-annual-cell-phone.html organized by Sarah Baron http://www.sarahbaron.com/. I first met Sarah at the Light Factory http://www.lightfactory.org/ where I attended her class on Composition in Photography.
The contest forced me to take all 900+ photos I had on my iPhone and import them into my photo library on my desktop computer. After reviewing the photos on my desktop, I realized there were some pretty good photos on my iPhone. Good exposure, good composition and lots of fun memories came out of that phone. Thanks to Sarah I'm looking at my cell phone photography much differently. Here are my three selections, I hope you enjoy them!
"Golden Gate" May 2011.
"A Glass of Bubbly" July 2011. http://www.ansonrestaurant.com/
"Self Portrait with Jack" August 2012. On a ride at Carowinds.
Thanks for viewing the blog and have a great week!
