Early Birds

A great thing about living on beautiful Lake Norman http://www.visitlakenorman.org/, in Denver, NC http://www.denvernc.com/index.html   is waking to the many sounds of nature. Every morning we hear a choir of birds chirping for their breakfast. In addition to small mockingbirds, sparrows, cardinals, finch, and blue jays we see and hear blue heron, mallard, owls, and some very loud red tailed hawks. When you see these birds make their nest, feed and care for their young you begin to realize how many creatures are sharing their small world with us.

The non profit Carolina Raptor Center http://www.carolinaraptorcenter.org/ is located in nearby Huntersville, NC http://www.huntersville.org/ . The Carolina Raptor Center is a place where injured and orphaned birds of prey are rehabilitated and then released back into their natural habitat.  The Raptor Center is home to over 23 species of raptors and is one of the only centers in the Southeast that cares for the American Bald Eagle. Over 700 orphaned raptors are brought to the Carolina Raptor Center for a chance to grow and fly free.

I had the opportunity to do some nature photography at the Raptor Center and I was able to get up close and personal with some of the beautiful residents.

Back to the Blog!

It's been a while since the last blog, and my apologies for the inactivity. However I've got lots of news to share with all of you!

First, we've introduced a new Noble Coast Photography logo, courtesy of Lucander Design, https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Lucander-Design/106829236110126 . Nils Lucander is the owner and the genius behind Lucander Design. I've known Nils for about 15 years and during that time Nils has helped me with a variety of marketing, graphic design and advertising projects. Nils always provides me with high impact marketing work that deliver results. I call Nils my "home run hitter" for marketing!

Some other news is that Noble Coast Photography is now working with new computer hardware and software systems. David Iannnarelli of Iannarelli Photography helped me spec out and create a state of the art "digital darkroom". I'm enjoying learning my way around the new computer and working with the new software. The new "digital darkroom" is certainly delivering some beautiful photographs for everyone. If you need some help with graphic computer systems, David aka: "The Digital Guru" is the guy! iannarelliphoto@mindspring.com

One other bit of news is the opening of the Noble Coast Photography home studio. I can now handle most any studio photo work. I've been doing some portrait photography and product photography at the home studio and it's been great being able to work in my own studio setting.

Historical Gems of Lincoln County, North Carolina

I've always loved to explore historical sites, I think alot of my interest started as I was growing up in Setauket, NY http://www.threevillagechamber.com/. Setauket had a rich colonial history that allowed my imagination to soar as a child. The Setauket Indian tribe, Revolutionary War battles, the local spy ring that aided George Washington's troops and more turned me into a bit of a history buff. When I first moved to North Carolina, I didn't see alot of local history as I had on Long Island. Well that all changed once I began driving the back roads of Lincoln County, NC http://www.co.lincoln.nc.us/. I quickly discovered many abandoned farms, barns, plantation homes, and roads. I joined the Lincoln County Historical Society http://www.lincolncountyhistory.com/ to learn about the places and sites I was discovering. As we close  2011, I'd like to share some photos that I have taken over the past year and hope you enjoy the black and white images as much as I do.

   

Christmas and 2011 Children Portaits, some favorites

I think Christmas is the time of year that kids love most. It's so enjoyable to hear kids excitedly talk about Santa Claus and tell me how good they have been this year. I love seeing kids look wide eyed at Christmas lights and reach for all those bright decorations.

I've had many great opportunities to capture some precious moments of children this year. Some of my children portraits were the second or third time I had photographed the child. When I see the new photos it reminds me of how fast time goes by and how fast our children grow. I enjoy recording a child's life in photographs knowing that the picture will forever remind us of that time. I'd like to share some of my favorite children portraits from 2011.

Kryptonite and Concert Photography, Charlotte, NC

I have so much fun when I'm able to combine two things I truly enjoy, music and photography. Concert photography is especially fun when the band is engaging the audience and striking a pose for my Canon 7D. And that's what was going on when I went down to the Visulite Theatre http://www.visulite.com/ and photographed The Spin Doctors http://www.spindoctors.com/about. You may remember the Spin Doctors from their 1991 album, "Pocket Full of Kryptonite" http://www.amazon.com/Pocket-Full-Kryptonite-20th-Anniversary/dp/B005694Z6U/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1323813431&sr=1-2. Considered an original "Jam Band", The Spin Doctors emerged from the New York music scene in the early 1990's. The Spin Doctors are now out touring again promoting their 20th anniversary release of "Pocket Full of Kryptonite".

I photographed the band as they jammed through the entire Pocket Full of Kryptonite album along with several other hit songs. The audience was a rocking mix of all ages having a great time singing and dancing as the band played their tight sets.

Photographing the Autumn Colors of North Carolina

It's quickly gotten cold here in beautiful Denver, NC. So before we suddenly find ourselves into winter, I'd like to share some of this year's fall foliage photos. These photos are part of a set that I took on a beautiful October day in the Smoky Mountains http://www.visitsmokies.org/ . I don't believe there are many better places in the world to view the natural beauty of autumn colors than what you find in the mountains of North Carolina along the Blue Ridge Parkway http://www.blueridgeparkway.org/  .

On this day before the sun had risen, I drove up a mountain rim to a favorite spot of mine named Wiseman's View http://appalachiantreks.blogspot.com/2008/07/wisemans-view.html . When you look out east from Wiseman's View you can't help but become part of the great vista of sun rising up over North Carolina. It's a wonderful place to go watch the sun rise any time of the year but on this day the autumn colors made it spectacular. After I completed photographing the sun rise, I drove back down the mountain and to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I made several stops along the Parkway and captured more colors of the season.
