Pompeii Today

AD 79, August 24 and only 17 years removed from a major earthquake, the city of Pompeii was buried under the volcanic ash from Mt Vesuvius. As the super heated air engulfed the city and a glowing cloud of volcanic ash and debris rolled down the slopes of Vesuvius, the buildings and it's inhabitants were quickly buried and thus preserved in detail for hundreds of years. What remains today is a fascinating journey back in time making it a wonderful place for black and white photography.

Baby Girl Watching Snow Flakes

During a recent snow fall I was able to capture this beautiful baby watching snow fall from the skies. Living in North Carolina where it does not snow often, it may have been her first experience for watching snow flakes.

When she turned from the window, I shot this using the same beautiful light.

Spring Is In The Air

60 degree temperatures get us thinking of the warm weather approaching and an end to winter confinement. I took advantage of a warm day by visiting the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in beautiful Belmont, NC.  With orchids in bloom and plenty of other flowers through out the grounds it was a great time to try some new techniques and capture the beauty of the season. C'mon warm weather and goodbye winter!

Many thanks to my friend Bill Kent who recently helped with some very bad technical and physical problems I encountered with my computer. Bill got my totally crashed computer up and running and very backed up. Also thanks to a couple of photographers who always share their knowledge with me, Larry Geter and Terie Christmas Davis. Larry and Terie have helped with my understanding of macro photography and are always keeping me inspired!

 Thank you Bill, Larry and
Terie I got the blog up again!!

Thanks for viewing the blog and have a great week!
