September Baby Part 2

As a follow up from the August 29,2012 Blog "September Baby", Andrew John made his entrance into our world September 5. Andrew is our third grandchild, all boys, from my two boys, alot of boys in the family! Congratulations Liz and Keith!

For me, I find black and white photographs create memorable pieces when photographing newborn babies.

Music in the Streets

No matter where you go in the world, when you travel into a metropolitan area you will probably find a street musician to serenade you with a song for your day. Most are working for tips or a chance to sell their latest CD. A small tip of paper money will surely get you a smile or a wink of "Thanks!". A face, interesting clothes, a musical instrument and a bustling city street create one of those great natural studios!

THIS is an OLD HOUSE

My curiosity of history is always piqued when I come across an old gem while driving rural roads. It's always a good day of exploring the North Carolina countryside when I bring along my friend Terie Christmas Davis http://wabisabiphotoart.com/.  Much of Terie's blog is written towards photographing things from the past. Terie grew up in this southern planet called North Carolina and speaks the local language. This comes in very handy when we run across a local wanting to know "What y'all doin' on this property photographin'?". Terie has already saved this Yankee boy with the New Yawk accent a couple of times. As a matter of fact, Terie usually strikes up a conversation with the folks and we get to learn all about the property. Sometimes we'll get a full history of the family who once lived there!

While riding around with Terie one day we came across this abandoned house not too far from my home in Denver, NC http://www.denvernc.com/. We didn't meet anyone that day so the history is a mystery. As I was photographing I noticed how the reflections of the trees and skies worked their way into old windows. The rusted shutter hardware and broken chair in the yard was just too cool! Please enjoy...................

Have Phone Have Camera

It's incredible how easy it has become to record memories today. It wasn't long ago that we would say "If only I had my camera!". In 2000, the first camera phone was introduced in Japan. By 2002 smart phones were entering the market. Of the 330 million wireless phones in the USA today, half are smart phones. World wide, more than 1000 cell phones are activated every minute, most with a camera!

I have found the camera in my iPhone to be a good enough camera that I no longer carry my point and shoot camera. Although I certainly wouldn't compare my iPhone camera to my Canon DSLR,  you can't beat the convenience of a cell phone camera. For the most part, I use my iPhone camera for taking candid shots of family, recording a random adventure, or photography at venues that don't allow DSLR cameras.

I recently received an invitation to submit 3 camera phone shots for a contest http://bulb-photo.blogspot.com/2012/07/exciting-news-second-annual-cell-phone.html organized by Sarah Baron http://www.sarahbaron.com/.  I first met Sarah at the Light Factory http://www.lightfactory.org/ where I attended her class on Composition in Photography.

The contest forced me to take all 900+ photos I had on my iPhone and import them into my photo library on my desktop computer. After reviewing the photos on my desktop, I realized there were some pretty good photos on my iPhone. Good exposure, good composition and lots of fun memories came out of that phone. Thanks to Sarah I'm looking at my cell phone photography much differently. Here are my three selections, I hope you enjoy them!
