Golden Gate

The Golden Gate Bridge http://goldengatebridge.org/, perhaps the most famous bridge in the United States, is truly a beautiful spectacle. Connecting the picturesque city of San Francisico http://www.sfgov.org/index.asp and Marin County http://www.marincounty.org/ , the bridge got it's name from the body of water below, the Golden Gate Strait http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/237607/Golden-Gate.  Construction of the 4200 foot bridge started in January 1933 and was completed in a little over 4 years becoming the world's longest suspension bridge. Today there are 8 suspension bridges longer than the Golden Gate Bridge.

The paint color of International Orange was chosen to blend with the warm colors of the area's natural landscapes and provide a contrast from the cool colors of the blue sky and seas. There are 38 full time workers who every day maintain and paint the bridge. Approximately 41 million automobiles pay $ 6.00 to cross the golden Gate Bridge annually. If you want to walk the bridge or ride your bike, it's free. With so many easily accessible vista points, the Golden Gate Bridge is one of the world's most photographed bridge.

Thanks for viewing the blog and have a great week!
