Newborn Black and White photography

I have received several positive comments on my black and photography lately. Thank you! I had a previous blog post
( http://noblecoastphotographyblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/black-and-white-photography-yesterday.html ), where I shared some thoughts on Black and White photography.

In this week's blog I am posting my black and white photographs from a recent newborn photography session. I think these timeless photographs would work well individually matted and framed or together in a framed newborn collage.

Thanks for viewing my blog and wish everyone a great week!

Peace,

John

Watching a Family Grow

Children grow up so fast! How many times do we say that through out the year? A great way to preserve family memories is to arrange for a family portrait session once a year. The recorded images help to forever remind us of the family growing together.

A year ago, Jeff and Terriann contacted me to photograph their two year old daughter, Rylee. During the same photo session, we created a set of family portraits. We did the same thing this year for Rylee's third birthday. Jeff and Terriann will use some of the photographs for family Christmas gifts. They also will choose one of the photographs for their Christmas cards. All of the photographs from the session  now become part of their family portrait collection. Such a great way to share and preserve their family memories!

Jeff and Terriann, thanks for letting me be part of your family memories!

Thanks for reading my blog this week.

Children Photography in the Park

I had alot of fun photographing these two sisters and I was using available natural light again! No strobes, flashes or reflectors.

When I photograph children outside I prefer to keep photography gear to a minimum. Reflectors and strobes can sometimes intimidate a young child. You usually get about 30 minutes of attention  from children under 4 so I want to minimize distractions and maximize photography time.

When we photographed Kaely and Virginia we found some great light and I was able to capture some fun images. These little girls are too cute! Enjoy!

Thanks for reading my blog, see you next week!

Photographing with Natural Light in Falls Park

In my September 8, 2011 post  http://noblecoastphotographyblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/love-to-learn.html I wrote about how there is always something new to learn in the world of digital photography. I try to attend workshops that are taught by photographers and artists who share their knowledge and provide me with priceless insight into their art and business.

I had a great time when I attended a workshop with Eddie Tapp  http://www.eddietapp.com/  and Judy Host  http://www.judyhost.com/ . Eddie Tapp is a Master Photographer, Explorer of Light for Canon Camera and a hall of fame Photoshop Expert.  Judy Host is one of today's top child photographer with studios in Northern California and Atlanta Georgia.

We met at beautiful Falls Park  www.fallspark.com/  located in downtown Greenville, SC. The weather cooperated and we were able to shoot on a beautiful sunny autumn day. We had kids, couples, models, and families and they were all great to photograph. I spent alot of the day learning from Judy and working with her natural light techniques. I  enjoyed seeing how Judy worked with the children and got them to naturally pose themselves.

I also had some time to watch Eddie Tapp set up his light strobes in the park. Eddie combined the strobes with natural light and demonstrated how to create stunning outdoor photographs of the beautiful models. Eddie and Judy both took time to work with all of us individually to help improve our techniques or help with any questions we had.

Here are some of my photographs I took of Rylie during the workshop. You can see the different natural lighting we were able to capture during the course of the day. Rylie really enjoyed being photographed and was so great to work with.

Thanks for reading the blog and I hope you enjoyed the photos.

See you next week!

Maternity Photography

I do enjoy baby photography, but before baby arrives it's wonderful to photograph Mom with baby. Maternity photography is an enjoyable and memorable experience for Moms and Dads. The maternity photographs will always be there for Mom and Dad to help remind them of the early time together with baby.

When planning a maternity photograph session I know I will want to create a story with timeless black and white images. The location of the photograph session always plays an important role in the story. When we photographed Casey, we found a magnificent old tree to work with. The tree worked so well with Casey and the black and white photos.

I hope you enjoyed my maternity photography.

Thanks for viewing the blog and see you next week!

Liam's 1st Birthday!

Baby photography is always fun, especially when it's a birthday! I had the pleasure of photographing Liam for his first birthday. We photographed Liam in a couple of his favorite outfits, darn New England Patriot fan! I told Liam I like the Carolina Panthers and that since he lives in the Carolina's he should also be a Panther fan. Well Liam didn't want to hear anything about the Panthers. All Liam wanted to do was play with the balloons and have some birthday cake! Happy Birthday Liam!!

Future New England Quarterback?

Where's my birthday gifts?

Look Mom, I'm standing!

Yum Yum!

Happy Birthday!

I hope you enjoyed Liam's birthday pictures and the blog.

See you next week!

Album Cover Work

I got a call from our friend Jeff asking for an "album cover" photo session. Jeff and his friend Todd play acoustic guitar gigs and needed some photos to use on their posters. The posters would be used at clubs and bars advertising their gigs. I love photographing musicians and album cover art always inspires me, so this was right up my alley.

Jeff and Todd wanted to get a selection of images with them in an outdoor casual and relaxed atmosphere. We took the photos as the September sun was about to set, giving us a beautiful warm light. Perfect for some great natural light portraits. There was no need to break out any strobes or flashes for this session, the setting sun was all we needed.

You can see Jeff and Todd Acoustic play at Harvey's Bar and Grill in Huntersville ( http://www.harveysinhuntersville.com/ )  on October 28. C'mon out if you like great music and fun times.

Let Jeff and Todd know which one you like and thanks for taking a look at the blog!

See you at Harvey's
